The Power of Prioritizing Relationships: David Springer's Approach Featured on Podcast

Springer Studios Founder and Creative Director David Springer was recently interviewed by Julia McLaughlin of the Agency Toolkit Podcast to discuss his journey as an entrepreneur in the creative world. In their conversation, David shared his story and approach to running a “weatherproof” agency, focusing on the value of hard work, continual growth, and always bringing value to your clients.

As he discusses throughout the podcast, when it comes to running a creative agency, David’s philosophy can be summarized in three key points:

Know your numbers.

As a creative, it’s easy to get lost in the weeds – or, as David likes to put it: it’s easy to start chasing balloons. It’s essential to remain grounded and remember that, at the end of the day, you’re running a business. By building slowly and intentionally, investing in your team and staying on top of your financial position as it relates to the broader financial ecosystem, you can remain competitive without going overboard.

What does this mean for our clients? We respect your budget and timeline and know how to make decisions that are more than just creative. We perform market research to ensure that our solutions work for your industry.

Always prioritize the relationship.

David’s primary mission is to build relationships with and tell the stories of his clients. He emphasizes the importance of authenticity, holding himself and his team accountable to the call to “always be genuine and appreciate your relationships” and to “have positive interactions with every touchpoint over time.” After sticking to those tenets for the entirety of his career, David explains that the relationships he had when he first started working in the agency are the same ones that helped him ultimately get his own business off the ground.

Yes, we can provide a service, but really people are choosing to collaborate with you and your agency team. We’re good listeners. We listen first and talk second.

What does this mean for our clients? David’s leadership style lends itself to his team “falling in love on the first date.” We always focus on your vision as our north star.

Show what you can do, and learn what you can’t.

Consistency is a huge component of creative work. We are judged based on merit, and we put our skills to the test each day for our clients. At Springer Studios, we consistently produce and present the best work we can while maintaining the mindset that we can always get better. David explains that we “never want to use the word experts when referring to ourselves. There needs to be a level of a growth mindset, and we need to maintain humility.”

What does this mean for our clients? We are evolving as our world does. As we learn the new tools and trends of the creative industry, we can broaden our scope of options for our clients and ensure that you stay competitive in our ever-changing economy.

David and all of Springer Studios extend a warm thank you to Julia for the chance to speak on the Agency Toolkit Podcast. To learn more about the work we do at Springer Studios, check out our portfolio or listen to the podcast.

Julia closes out the episode with a lightning round of questions, one of which asked David’s advice to those looking to open an agency, but – in typical David fashion, he’s left us with advice that rings true no matter the circumstance:

If you really want it, bet on yourself. If you really want it, go get it.
